Ecology!

In science, we have been learning all about ECOLOGY lately. While we we're learning this subject our teacher likes to give us some vocabulary to help us remember. Such as the words autotroph and consumer. The only difference between the two is that an autotroph is an organism that makes it's on food and a consumer eats other organisms to get energy. Another important word is niche, this is important because it is the role of an organism in it's society. An example of this would be if you are a sister, brother, student, or any under that catagory. Another one that we spent a lot of time on was symbiosis, this is a relationship between two organisms in which one organism lives near, or inside another and effects the other one by either hurting or helping it. Like when a bird lives on top of a tree, they two living organisms represent a perfect example of symbiosis. Two other words you would need to remember are food chain and food web. A food chain is when food energy is tranferred from on species to another in a representation of series of events. On the other hand a food web is when various food chains over-lap and are represented in a diagram. As I was researching ECOLOGY, I found out that wikipedia words the definition as: "The scientific study of the distribution and abundance of life and the interactions between organisms and their natural environment". It also said that:"Eugenius Warming founded ecology as a scientific discipline. I cant wait to learn more about ecology.

Symbiosis

In Science Class, our previous subject was entitled, Symbiosis. This is a relationship about two species that work together. The results of the relationship could end up either hurt one or both, or, benefiting on or both. In Symbiosis, there are three possible categories that they would fall under, Parasitism, Commensalism, or Mutualism. Parasitism is when both of the species in the relationship are harmed. An example would be the Shelf Fungus and the Hickory Tree because they both aren't getting anything out of the realtionship but instead are being harmed. The next one, Commensalism, would be when one of the species is benfited but the other on isn't harmed either. An example would be a bird living on a tree because the bird is getting shelter while the tree isn't getting harmed. type is Mutualism, this is when the two species are both getting benfited. An example would be a bee and a flower because they both are helping each other to get an important element needed in there lives. As I was doing a litter more research on Symbiosis I found out that the word comes from the greek origin, because syn means with and biosis means living. I also learned that Heinrich Anton de Bary, a German mycologist, gave Symbiois the definition of: "the living together of unlike organisms". I cant wait to learn more about this topic!

The Truth About Global Warming

Have you ever really thought about Global Warming and what effect it will have in you? This is event is going to change our world in a way we would never want it to. There will be be many tragic results just like Siberia, thawing permafrost would release large amounts of carbon dioxide in our air. A country named Greenland, may suffer vastly because Global Warming can cause this country to melt at a quick pace. Something we really need to focus on is the fact that, if we don't reduce our Greenhouse gas emissions, than the concentration on carbon will continue to increase in our atmosphere. But there are some people who disagree with this statement and say that concept is misunderstood. The sad part of this dangerous event is that a lot of people are aware of it but aren't doing considering it as a major issue. In fact, a lot of people are saying that they'll just WAIT AND SEE what global warming does to our planet. Our scientist just can't stop Global Warming EVERYBODY needs to care enough to recycle and re-use, and not only that but also research and find out what is actually happening to our planet. I really hope on day this happens and global warming doesn't take full effect.

Finally, A FLYING CAR!!!

The invention that many people have been waiting for is fear! That's right, in Woburn, Massachusetts the engineers of Terrafugia have made a car that can be accessed by road and air. Engineers have been working on this ever since the 1950's, when Molt Tyler had mad a model called the Aerocar but, unfortunately, he done not have enough costomers so it didn't go through. Terrafugia, has decided to name this model, the Transition. It will have four wheels just like any ordinary car but, it will also have, 10 foot wide wings that can be used when you are flying, but as soon as soon as you start driving on the road, or park your car, than, they will fold up. The company has decided they don't want to call it the flying car but instead they decided the Transition would be called the "Roadable Aircraft". The company has been approved to be safe by the Federal Aviation Administration, National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency. The Transition will meet these organization's needs, standards, and rules. They will be making about seven hundred Transitions a year. This car will be on sale next. I really can't wait till then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Class Response- iMovie

In class, we were assigned to make a iMovie. The partners that I had chosen for this assignment were Nibbles12 and Ocean23. Together we had to make a movie about Water Energy. In the past, water wheel were used as water energy. Right now, water is a energy source for plants, a refreshment for humans, and heats our houses. Later, in the future, we might be using water as fuel for our cars so we can save some gas!!! I also just learned that, hydropower from water is a renewable source that is used for electricity. Another fact is, in a water souce you can find hydrolectric plants. In my opinion making a iMovie was a whole new learning experience for me. Some of the sources we used were:

Experiment 5-J (Yellow Social Studies)

30 years ago........

*No electric toothbrush
*No dishwasher
*No Computer
*No Cellphone
*No Cordless phone
*No electric garage opener
*Only gym teachers wore jeans
* Regular Teachers wore dress clothes
*No iPods
*The only video game was pong
*The only computer classes were for people going into Business
*8 track players
*Only 4 TV stations- NBC, ABC, PBS, CBS
*No Microwave
*No seat belts
*Transmitter Radios
*No calculators
*Antennas on TV<<<>>>No Cable
*Instead of blenders there were beaters
*VCR was the size of a small suitcase
*Computers were very slow
*No digital clocks
* The milk was delivered at your door
*No preservatives in food
Sources--- Mr. Ahmed, Mrs. Stan, Mrs. Broder
Paragraph<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< A culture can change culture values. It can change them by the ability to do things faster. It can also change some of the culture values. An example for this would be the changes in clothing. I believe that the most biggest difference would have to be in the no preservatives in food and having no cellphones. I am thankful for all this technology because I use calculators in math so if I didn't have that a word problem would take me days. I am also thankful because if I only had four channels I would be bored to death!!!!!!!!!! I really believe that there have been so many things changed from 30 years ago to now.

Math Extra Credit

Recently, ND Works has posted that they $1.45 million would be provided to assist students who are undergraduates for their careers in math. In ND Works it states that this influence will cause to scholar ship distributions for the following:
*sophomores
*juniors
*senior
These scholar ships will be passes out to the students that participated in the "Honors Mathematics Program". As the word of this is spreading more people are getting interested for joining the program. It is from the hosting of Frank Connolly who had donated the money. In my opinion, they should make more programs like this. You can find out more about this article by going on:
